Become a Webmaster

The World Wide Web is indeed a perfect way to express yourself and have your own online presence. You might have enjoyed the Web for years as a user for your educational research, immersed yourself to the latest news, chat with online friends, access your e-mail account and watch videos on popular websites – but did you ever think of having your own website with any of the above plus – believe it or not – income? Sounds great, isn’t it? Then you have to become a webmaster.

A webmaster, in its simplest definition, is the one who maintains and updates a website. He is the author of the website responsible for designing, developing, and marketing. Webmasters are practitioners of Web communication who use different Web languages, scripting and Internet multimedia technologies. A webmaster is sometimes called a web designer, web developer, or a web administrator.

In small organizations and businesses, a webmaster does all the website tasks such as creating or designing web pages and updating. However, in large companies, webmasters do not necessarily do all the technical works but they are the ones responsible of evaluating the effectiveness and impact of the website to the clients analytically and quantitatively. Clearly though, you can be a webmaster of your own site.

So you want to become a webmaster? Well, there’s a long but exciting trail ahead. You don’t need to be a full-fledge web programmer in order to be called a webmaster (though it is always advantageous to have a programming experience). Do not be discouraged – your success will only be limited by the amount of efforts you are willing to give, your determination, and motivation.

With the presence of cutting-edge web tools and drag-and-drop web page or HTML editors nowadays (e.g., Dreamweaver or FrontPage), creating a website is just few clicks away. You do not need to be a master of HTML, PHP, or ASP languages to embark in your new online journey. However, it is certain that you will learn many things on the way -- things you probably never tried to do before such as hosting a site, having your own domain name, uploading a site using FTP client, scripting, and website planning. As you get along, do not be overwhelmed with new jargons as most terms really mean simple as you could ever think!

As you become a webmaster, you will spend most of your time online and working on your website. You will ensure that things are updated and your site contents are of good quality to hook your site visitors and make your site rank better on search engines. By doing such, you will not be only working as a webmaster but you will soon realize the revenue potential of your own website – and you will be called affiliate marketer. What is affiliate marketer? Well, that’s another interesting story.

The thing you need to start is a website of course. You need to obtain a domain name and avail a hosting package from a webhosting company or order online. When you acquired both, you can start creating web pages, upload them and learn many things as you get a long. Well, you need a bit of research about this.
